The necessity to rethink democracy
On the basis of an analysis of the crisis of the represenative democracy and its causes, the article pleads for the necessity to have to “rethink de democracy” and – consequently – to promote a more direct participation of the citizens in the decision making processes. Even the political parties have realizad this fact and all of them propose solutions, from the organisation of referendums to primary elections. But any formula of participation is not valid and effective, reason why the article develops a list of criteria that allow to compare the existing mechanisms and to verify their suitability. At the end of this comparison, it comes to the conclusion that the “Citizen Juries” (Planungszelle, Núcleos de Intervención Participativa, Noyaux d-intervenion participative, panels de citoyen) are the mechanism that better fulfills the demanded criteria.
