Workshop presentation

Whether they claim to come from a popular culture or learned culture, artists, writers, painters, sculptors, theatre or film people, singers and musicians, dancers, or those simply devoted to passing on or transforming the creativity of peoples, are conscious or unconscious vehicles of a vision of the world. Now that information circulates rapidly, they are also unifiers or bearers of confrontation, messengers and ambassadors to other peoples. All powers in all eras, whether political or economic, have maintained complex relationships of instrumentalisation, support or control of these multiple expressions of creativity. What is their role today in Chinese and European societies? How do they view their role and the responsibilities in them? What vision of their society and its future do they have or seek to pass on? What role do they play or could they play in the dialog between two major civilisations, that of China and that of Europe?

These are some of the questions to which the workshop will provide responses.
