Workshop presentation

In the aging European and Chinese societies, and in contrast with what is happening in the countries with strong demographic growth, young people have become very much a minority. But they are the ones who will make the future of our societies. The future of our societies and, above and beyond that, of humanity, will depend on their vision of individual and collective destiny, their fears, their hopes, their drive and their networks. On the one hand, they have the feeling that they enjoy a well-being and access to the freedom, consumption and techniques that their elders enjoyed, and, on the other, they have the fear of a future less bright than previous generations sometimes thought. They are torn between nationalist and cultural identity withdrawal on the one hand, and participation in an increasingly interdependent world on the other. They will be at the heart of the building of a more united Europe as much as a more confident dialogue between China and Europe. How do they see their future and irresponsibility? How do they intend to take on this latter?
